Classes

Courses are scheduled according to demand and availability of resources, so please check the calendar to see what is currrently on offer.

Awareness Through Movement

In the meditative atmosphere of an Awareness Through Movement group lesson, you will be verbally guided through a sequence of gentle movements intended to help develop greater sensitivity to how you move, think, and learn.

With a focus on the relationships between movement and thought, increased mental awareness and creativity, these lessons are helpful for people at all levels of ability including those who are extremely healthy and those with serious injuries or disabilities.

As a part of the Feldenkrais Method, Awareness Through Movement is for anyone interested to reconnect with their natural abilities to move, think, and feel. Whether you wish to be more comfortable sitting at your computer, performing a favorite pastime, or playing with your children, these gentle lessons can improve your overall wellbeing. Learning to move with less effort makes daily life easier and giving yourself time to connect to your inner process makes daily life much more fulfilling

Awareness Through Movement is highly regarded as a sophisticated, enjoyable sensory-motor approach to learning and is based upon the evolutionary development of the human nervous system and the innate capacity of the human brain to learn. People who apply these lessons often find relief from stress and pain, experience freedom in movement, mental clarity, and a lightened emotional state. While participating in Awareness Through Movement, it is not uncommon for people to find deep satisfaction within their learning process which ignites many pleasant surprises and personal breakthroughs.

Beginners Hatha Yoga

This class is aimed at students who are relatively new to yoga or have not practiced yoga recently.

The classes provide work on the postures, breath work and meditation. Emphasis will be placed on how you can use yoga to improve your quality of life and de-stress. Each class concludes with a guided relaxation, leading to a state of calmness and completeness and to promote restful sleep.

Experienced Yoga

For experienced students to work on more challenging postures and techniques.

Students must have knowledge of most commonly practiced asanas and pranayama techniques.

Kripalu Stage 1

The first stage emphasizes postural alignment and coordination of breath and movement, bringing the mind fully present to the body and to sensations through classical hatha yoga asanas.

During this stage, postures are held only for a short time, which stretches and strengthens the body, releases chronic muscle tension, and encourages relaxation. The goal is to allow a strong flow of prana throughout the body and to develop mental concentration.

Each class includes centering, pranayama, postures, and meditation, and ends with a period of deep relaxation to revitalize the respiratory, nervous, endocrine, digestive, and other major systems of the body.

Kripalu Stage 2

In Stage 2, the inner experience is systematically deepened through meditation and the holding of postures for prolonged periods.

In addition to strengthening muscles, this prolonged holding helps develop concentration and an ability to recognize and release deep-seated emotional and mental tensions. Over time, unconscious material comes to the surface, where it can be felt, seen, and let go of to restore emotional balance and mental clarity. The heart opens, creating an increased capacity for learning and growth. Students must have attended Level 1 classes (or their equivalent).

Each class includes centering, pranayama, postures, and meditation, and ends with a period of deep relaxation to revitalize the respiratory, nervous, endocrine, digestive, and other major systems of the body.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga has been practised for thousands of years by people of countless religious faiths.

Kundalini Yoga integrates all branches of the yogic discipline combining kriyas (physical exercises), pranayama (controlled breathing techniques), meditations and mantras (chanting) resulting in an extremely powerful and transformational experience.
